RARE Crofters Bed in Original Condition c1850 A sturdy bed - probably more suited to a large single than a small double - which is circa 1850. Made of pine, it has the original stained finish which was intended to make the bed look like mahogany. We have not restored this bed in any way - we feel that this would detract from the original nature of the bed. As you can see from the photographs it certainly has its` share of knocks and scratches, but it is exactly how an original crofters` bed should be and will appeal to the purist. The many small upstands on the cross members & head / footboard would originally have had rope strung between them to create the "mattress".
